A message from Jane French, manager of Les Cheneaux Community Library, an affiliate of Superior District Library:
This has been a very interesting time for all of us, with CoVid-19 changing our lives.
We need to remember that we should be kind to others and keep them and ourselves safe.
With that in mind, I want to let you know that the library is opening on Tuesday, June 16th for both curbside service and in person visits with our new protocols in place. The library will be open the regular hours starting that day.
INSIDE:
CURBSIDE:
If you don’t want to come into the library, we will be offering “curbside service”.
PROGRAMS AND OTHER INFORMATION:
I have cancelled most of the inside programs, but there will be a few on the porch, including Music on the Porch, Drummunity and Michigan Science Center-Digital Bling.
There will be no Pre-School Pop-in, Story Time, Summer Fun Days, Book Sale or Movies this summer.
We will be doing “Maker Space” on Thursday mornings starting at 10:00 a.m. beginning on June 25th.
The other Superior District Libraries will be opening soon, and your card will work at all those locations. Pickford, Mollie R. Kahl in Rudyard, Detour, Drummond Island, Engadine, Curtis, Brevort Township in Moran, and Bayliss in Sault Ste. Marie.

- If you are not feeling well, please do not come to the library.
- Please return all materials in the outside dropbox. If it is too large to put in the dropbox, please bring it inside and let the staff know, so that we may sanitize it. If it is a DVD or Audio Book, please wrap it in a plastic bag, then put it in the dropbox. This will prevent the package from opening up and damaging the disks.
- Please use the back door to enter – the one off the parking lot.
- The Les Cheneaux Community Library expects visitors to follow the guidelines recommended by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
- All staff and volunteers are required to wear masks when dealing with patrons and the public.
INSIDE:
- As you enter the library, there will be a table with hand sanitizer on it, please use it, or wash your hands in the bathroom before entering the library proper. Don’t touch your face afterwards. Washing your hands and not touching your face is the most important practice that you can do to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus, and other sicknesses.
- Please wear a mask while in the library. This is to protect you and those around you.
- Please keep a social distance of 6 feet, from anyone not in your own party.
- Please stay six feet back from the circulation desk when waiting in line to be checked out, or to ask a question, and stand at the germ shield when talking to the staff member at the desk.
- There will be sanitizing wipes to use, if you feel the need to wipe something down.
- There will be disposable gloves upon request.
- If you are browsing the shelves, and take a book, audiobook, or DVD off to read the jacket synopsis, and don’t want it, please put it on the designated cart. The staff will take care of those materials, and sanitize them before putting them back on the shelf.
- There will only be 5 public computers available for use. They will be on a first come, first serve basis (unless I determine that we need to schedule appointments). Time on the computers will be limited to one hour, unless there are open computers. The computer stations will be sanitized between uses.
- Please be respectful and kind.

- Search Les Cheneaux Community Library online catalog at lcclib.weebly.com to determine if we have a book, audiobook, or DVD. You may place a hold on it through the computer. A staff member will call you and arrange a time for you to pick up your item(s).
- If you don’t know what you want, but do know the author, genre, or type, give us a call at 906-484-3547 or email us at [email protected]. We will find something for you, check it out to you, and give you a call to arrange pickup.
- Only materials from Les Cheneaux Community Library are available. There will be NO interlibrary loans yet.

Cleaning Procedures/Schedule:
Les Cheneaux Community Library has established cleaning procedures to keep library premises sanitized. The building has been deep cleaned by the contracted crew through the Friends of LCCL, so we are ready to welcome the public.
The building is cleaned twice weekly with special consideration to the high-touch surfaces.
The building will be cleaned with a disinfectant by staff daily, and in between use at stations that are used by patrons throughout the day, such as computers, furniture arms, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, and faucets.
There will be clear signage at entries, in bathrooms, and throughout the library reminding patrons not to enter, or to go home if they don’t feel well, wash/sanitize their hands, don’t touch their faces, cough into their elbows and be cautious not to spread germs.
