"Adventure Begins at Your Library" Reading Buddies - now through Aug. 17th
Children are welcome to fill out an adoption application to take a reading buddy home (while supplies last). All children may pick up a reading challenge that can be completed at home and returned for a prize. Maker Space - Thursdays June 27th - Aug. 8, 10:30 to 12:00 p.m. Our Maker Space host will have the robots, Nintendo, iPads, Legos, Perler beads, and much more available for use and exploration. Bring a friend and come build, explore and have fun. Friends of Les Cheneaux Community Library Annual Summer Book Sale - Monday, July 1st, Tuesday, July 2nd, & Wednesday July 3rd Pre-sale Monday, July 1st 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. (Must be an ASK donor or pay $5 for pre-sale access.) Tuesday, July 2nd & Wednesday, July 3rd 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All books sold by donation, no set prices. Lego Fun on the Porch - Tuesday, July 9th, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Everyone loves Lego bricks! Come play games and build on the porch. Fun activities for older and younger builders. Music on the Porch: Captain Karnooba presents "The secret radio hour" featuring Gingersmack - Thursday, July 11th, 6:30 p.m. Shipwreck Russia Saved by the Light - Tuesday, July 16th, 7:00 p.m. Tom Farnquist tells the story of the shipwreck “Russia” in northern Lake Huron, near the DeTour lighthouse . Come on over to the library and watch “The Alans” as they perform magic for all ages. Author Paula VanderMey - Saturday, July 20th, 1:00 p.m. Paula VanderMey will be signing her new book “Partners”, book three in her series. Come on in and find out about this series. Open House Celebration for Kate TerHaar - Sunday, July 21st, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Including dedication of a sculpture. All About Aquatic Invasive Species with Three Shores CISMA - Tuesday, July 23rd, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Come join Lilli our outreach specialist for a discussion about aquatic invasive species and how you can help prevent the spread of them! Shark Week - Thursday, July 25th, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Learn about sharks with a virtual trip, science experiment, and craft. See flashy demonstrations with the use of fire. We will go over fire safety, chemical reactions, and what happens within the flames with the movement of heat and energy. Anime Your Way: Carlos Nieto - Wednesday, July 31st, 1:00 p.m. Anime Your Way is a comprehensive step by step drawing program developed over 10 years by former Simpson’s artist Carlos Nieto III. He teaches you how to create and modify an anime character from scratch, no matter what your drawing level is! Using simple shapes and easy to understand instructions, you will gain the knowledge to create your very own unique anime characters. Pre-School Pop-In - Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs and crafts. Kids learn social interaction with others. Alcoholics Anonymous - Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. Alcoholics Anonymous Open meeting available to anyone interested. Seasonal—Memorial Day to Labor Day. Storytime - Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. More songs, read aloud books and crafts. Take and Make Kits contain the basic items for making a special craft. All ages are encouraged to pick up a kit, on a first-come first-served basis while supplies last. Check the Facebook page for new kit notices. Take and Make is sponsored by the Friends of Les Cheneaux Community Library. Story on the Porch Come check out a new story on our covered porch. Take dance breaks as you read “Can You Dance Like A Peacock?” by Rekha S. Rajan. Scavenger Hunts Every month there will be a new scavenger hunt at the library. Look for the hidden pictures/objects, find them all, and get a prize! Little Free Art Gallery This is the art version of The Little Free Library, sponsored by Friends of Les Cheneaux Community Library. The Little Free Art Gallery is on the library grounds and welcomes all types of art. Keep your art small (4"x6") and feel free to take a piece and leave a piece.
